I’ve been on this summer color quest lately– what defines a summer color? Am I maximizing items in my closet, making sure not to ignore colors that work year-round? What can I mix and match that I haven’t before? Lots of questions coming out of the Fashion Closet lately.
The Prada RTW Spring 2011 runway has been a bit of an inspiration for my Summer 2011 wardrobe via the bright color combo of orange and pink. I hadn’t thought to put these colors together before, and years ago I likely thought orange and pink clashed. But the color blocking trend is front and center, and matching unexpected shades. Prada’s orange and pink version includes some black, but I think this trend works with or without. The result is a super juicy, very summer-esque combo that begs to be both on the beach or out on the town.
Below are some choices for going all orange ‘n pink:
1. Sigerson Morrison fringed sandal ($250)
2. Dorothy Perkins striped dress ($64)
3. Ralph Lauren Rick bikini ($205)
4. Aeropostale dress ($40)
5. Old Navy cocktail ring ($9.50)
6. Meredith Wendell leather-trimmed raffia duffel bag ($595)
7. Nine West Stylin’ sandal ($89)
8. Calico Juno Carnelian drop earrings ($68)
The closest item to the Prada runway would be this version from Dorothy Perkins (2). A cute color combo on a sophisticated dress. Perfect for the office, a summer wedding or date night. Throw a plaid-patterned cotton dress (4) over your swim suit, or wear it during the weekend errand-run.
Speaking of bikinis, how fun is this number from Ralph Lauren (3)? The orange, pink and white combo will enhance your tan, for sure.
Take a pair of drop earrings (8) and a bright cocktail ring (5) and wear them with everything from your little black dress to a pair of denim cutoffs and a white tank.
One can never have too many shoes (or at least that’s what I keep telling myself), so why not indulge in a pair of fringed flats (1)? I’d wear these with a maxi skirt, or with skinny denim on a cooler summer night. And how can you resist a pair of color blocked heels (7)? I’d rock these all summer (and into fall, actually, as the orange and pink are a bit deeper/less neon).
And if you’re looking a weekender bag or a carry-all, try this Meredith Wendell on for size (6). I love how bright the color pops against the simple raffia base.
Orange and pink is my new jam. Are you game for trying it?
The only time I’ve ever done the orange and pink thing is with bathing suits and cover-ups. But I really like some of the stuff here- especially that striped dress! Great advice!
I love this look! I scored this shirt at a local boutique that is orange and pink (and white, too), and I wear it all the time! Looks great with white shorts!
I remember this Prada dress from somewhere- a red carpet or a premiere or something. Who’s worn it recently?
Would’ve never thought to try this- but now that I see how cute it is, I have to give it a try!
Awesome post! What are you doing for the holiday weekend?
Alissa- Hailee Steinfeld wore it to the SAGs this year (see: http://bit.ly/gxpAxH). Her version is modified; I like it even better!
Jaime- Getting together with a few old friends for some catch-up dinners, then perhaps some fireworks and BBQ at my parents’ house on Monday. 🙂
Great post! I’ll try to work this combo this weekend!
it all looks fab – love the shoes xxxxx
Love this combo. I’m dreaming outfits now
