Time to get in the holiday spirit! But let’s make our holiday outfit 2020-appropriate.

Welcome to the last month of 2020 and the first day of December! It’s officially holiday time. (If you’ve been celebrating early, no judgment here– you do you!) I’ve got the perfect holiday outfit in mind for this tumultuous, wild year– and I’m sharing it here and in the latest issue of KC Homes & Style (read the whole digital issue here).

My typical go-to for holiday is to amp up the glam. You know, really bring it for those holiday happy hours and Christmas Eve dinners. But this year? Those gatherings just aren’t happening. (Stay safe, people– a vaccine is on the horizon but it’s not here yet!) I still wanted an outfit to put me in the Christmas spirit, but speaks to the “make it cozy” vibe of 2020 we’ve all leaned into.

I started with the glam element: a silk leopard slip dress. Thigh slit, gorgeous sheen, body-skimming cut– this dress was meant for a night on the town. (Well, a night on Zoom will have to do.)

Then I added my cozy element: an oversized cable knit sweater. (Almost exact here and similar here.) Boom! Glam and chic. The slip dress brings the sexy, the sweater adds some warmth. (It is December, after all.)

I added some attitude to the outfit with these tall black cowboy boots. The boots balance out the outfit’s more feminine elements. I am really digging the look of a midi dress with a tall boot, aren’t you? It’s an 80s vibe I’m loving. A cranberry lipstick lends a pop of classic holiday color to an otherwise neutral outfit. It also instantly elevates the outfit.

I added a pretty metal box clutch to this look, even though I’ll be staying in with Dave this Christmas. Whatever, I’ll just pop my phone and lipstick in it and trot down to my computer for some egg nog over Zoom– that’s so 2020, right? We do what we need to do to add some fun + normalcy while still staying safe.

  1. The holidays are going to be very strange this year. I just put in an order for Christmas dinner to be delivered to my door (because family gatherings and dinners aren’t happening and I’m too lazy to actually cook a turkey, especially when just two of us are eating it) and have decided to potty train Eleanor over the holidays (I’m stuck at home anyways, may as well). But I did buy a sequin dress so I plan to wear that Christmas day…at home.

  3. Yes, it’ll be a strange holiday but then it’s been a strange year. I applaud your refusal to give up the glamour and joy of the holiday season. Your outfit, and the reasons for each element of it, are perfect.

Whenever I see you’ve posted, I come running to look — and I’m never disappointed. You’re the best, most reliable blogger I know. In the whole world!
