Gingham Dress + Leather Jacket.

Who says a gingham dress has to be girly?

Gingham is everywhere right now. At first, I wrote it off for my personal style as too feminine + cutesy. But then I spotted this gingham dress at the Ruby Rouge boutique and immediately pictured it toughened up with lots of leather. The slim cut sheath silhouette is very 90s I swear, rather than over the top with lots of ruffles or a full skirt. (I swear Buffy wore a version of this dress while slaying some vamps.) I knew that adding my favorite biker jacket and a pair of sassy mulesΒ would be a style slam dunk. A gold chain choker further ensures this look stays full-blown 90s.

Do you have a gingham dress in your closet? I really love this black and white version with a smaller check; it feels a little more minimalist and less I’m-wearing-a-picnic blanket. I styled mine according to the Tough Girl Handbook, but if super femme is your thing, this gingham dress would be super cute with heeled sandals and a cardigan.

  1. I love that you were able to make gingham work for you! It is certainly one of the girlier patterns, part of the reason why I love it so much! But gingham in black and paired with a leather jacket definitely gives it more edge!!

  6. To be honest gingham always reminded me of my grandma’s tablecloths back in Norway, but you make it look really stylish! I think I might steal this look from you and try a gingham dress with a cute leather jacket. Thanks for the inspiration πŸ™‚
