We’re at the end of our fall fashion trend coverage for 2011. The highlights:
Last but most definitely not least, we have the riding jacket– which I’ve extended to also include saddle bags (the handbag kind, not the get-on-the-treadmill kind) and riding boots.
I love the equestrian look. It’s polished, but with an element of fun. Equestrian is an extension of military; in fact, the two trends often blend and can easily be worn together.
Let’s see the goods:
1. Willow & Clay Plaid Riding jacket ($98)
2. Label Lab Military Riding jacket ($230)
3. ASOS Saddle satchel ($37)
4. Tarnish Rustic Mini Saddle bag ($128)
5. Aldo Laughhead boot ($170)
The key to equestrian is layering key pieces over the basics in your wardrobe– solid tees and blouses, skinny denim, leggings, cropped trousers, lightweight sweaters. This olive riding jacket (1) is my new outerwear-crush. Seriously chic. Love the slightly-geeky plaid, and the brown trim at the collar and waist. The waist is brilliantly done; it nips in and then flares, which will give you some curve (or complement the curve you already have). A black jacket with gold buttons (2) is another choice; this one is both riding and military. I picture it over a long slouchy tee, a pair of black leggings and ballet flats or boots.
The saddle bag is a perfect way to get accessories in on the fun. To keep it equestrian, I tend to choose bags that have an element of that gorgeous saddle brown worked in. This ASOS satchel (3) is super affordable and chic. Olive green with brown trim and rugged hardware (4) is a little bit downtown, a little bit headed-to-the-stables. How cute would either of these be slung across the shoulders with a simple white crew neck, a pair of skinny denim and these incredible Aldo boots (5)? I love the two-toned look, and how the top of the boot angles in. That’s Derby, in the best way.
What do you think? Are you mounting up this fall?
Great post! I love that green jacket- very fall!
Those boots are so gorgeous!
I really love this trend and I’m so glad it’s big for this fall! I have a few pairs of boots like these in my closet, but I definitely need to go find a riding jacket! Great tips- thanks!
Your fall review has given me some serious “must-buys”! I’m off to shop this weekend! On the list: that amazing Willow and Clay jacket, a maxi skirt and a bow blouse! 🙂
Cute blog! Awesome advice and I love that give both high and low pricing options.
love,

Yes! I love everything about this post. Definitely mounting up this fall. I’m on the quest for a new pair of riding boots right now!
The jackets are adorable. Plus longer the brown bag!
I love everything- now if I only I had the cash to buy it all now. 🙂
Lovely blog!
What a great jacket! It’s so sharp and sophisticated! Really need that this autumn.
I found your blog through IFB- I really love it! It’s very helpful for drilling down exactly what the trends are, what you should be buying, and most importantly- HOW TO WEAR THE TRENDS!
So many blogs talk about the trends, but don’t show how to blend them into your existing outfits/closet.
Great job! Big new fan here!
capes capes, come to mamma!Great selection:)

i love equestrian inspired looks!
nice post, although I noticed you made no mention of incorporating Jodhpurs into this particular fashion soiree.
oh you don’t know what that word means? well then, consider it the word of the day:
Jodhpurs in their modern form are tight-fitting trousers that reach to the ankle, where they end in a snug cuff, and are worn primarily for horse riding.
ahhh i want those boots!
Excellent selections I’m sure you’ll rock your shoot. Can’t wait for photos.
