We were in summer mode a few weeks back and while I’m not ready for full-stop fall just yet, I’m down to start working in a fall feel to my outfits. In the latest issue of KC Homes & Style, I’ve put together an early fall look that works for those days when the weather is still warm, starting with an oversized button-up and lots of leather. Believe it or not, you can achieve an autumn vibe in early September without breaking into a full-body sweat. A great place to start? This faux leather mini skirt. It speaks to all the leather you’ll be seeing as part of fall’s big trends– think skirts, trousers, shackets, and blazers. A leather mini like this hints at fall while keeping you cool.

I’ve been wearing this oversized white button-up shirt with everything lately: over cutoff denim shorts, unbuttoned as a lightweight layer, and half-tucked into slouchy jeans. It’s a classic, but an oversized cut makes it less corporate and more modern. To give my shirt some shape, I’ve tucked it into the leather mini and rolled the sleeves for a distinctly off-duty feel.

A final fall-esque touch: tall boots! The return of the tall boot is one of the first signs the weather is changing. These patent croc boots really dress up this look and punctuate the fall feel.

I enjoy the challenge of trying to execute in-between season looks. There’s a lot of room to play around; you absolutely do not have to do a 180-degree pivot right from your summer closet to your fall wardrobe.
