Happy New Year, friends! How was your holiday season? I’m back into the swing of things for the winter issue of Kansas City Homes & Style in a classic trench coat and some luxurious burgundy accents.
I love a good trench coat, and no one does it better than Burberry. I gifted myself this coat last fall and it’s now one of my go-to jacket choices. This version is on the heavier side, so it stands up to (most) winter weather.
I wanted to lean into one of my favorite colors of the season: burgundy. Burgundy has been hot for a minute now, but its popularity shows no signs of slowing down. A turtleneck, belt, and pair of pumps over straight-leg black jeans tie in the color nicely and make way for a showstopper of a bag: the Teddy Blake Kayla.
I’m obsessed with the Kayla bag for a few reasons. The first and most important? Teddy Blake’s amazing quality. Handcrafted in Italy, Teddy Blake bags use premium leather, so your investment will stand the test of time. I can personally attest to this; my mini yellow TB still looks brand new after years of carrying it!
The burgundy color is super saturated and gorgeous, and the style? So on trend right now. After years of mini bags topping the charts, things are swinging back to oversized. The Kayla gives you plenty of room to carry your life around but stays polished in its structure. I’ve been using this as my work bag and I get compliments every time I bring it into the office!

Now, when you’re putting together a fairly monochromatic look around a base color (in this case, burgundy), don’t worry if every piece isn’t the exact same shade. For example, you’ll notice my burgundies aren’t all uniform; those pumps are a little darker than the turtleneck. That’s okay! It provides a little depth and interest in the look.
