If you missed Tuesday’s post, I styled a gorgeous navy bridesmaid dress from Sorella Vita the traditional way: topknot, black pumps + tights, and some statement earrings. Today is all about remixingâ putting that, “You can totally wear your bridesmaid dress again!” claim to the test.
Satin is not the most casual of fabrics, so I knew right away I needed to bring down that formal vibe. Enter a chambray shirt cuffed at the sleeve + knotted at the waist; this ushered in the easy-going and cinched things up. I ditched the tights for bare legs (brr, but will totally play come spring) and a neutral printed pump. A high messy ponytail replaced the dressy topknot, and subbed in layered boho bright white + gold jewelry for those formal statement pieces.
Where could I wear this? To the office, a dinner date, any sort of ladies-who-lunch event, etc. Adding in a denim topper definitely cuts that formal factor in half, and keeping the hair easy + breezy helps make the outfit seem more day than night.
Shop the look:
A massive thank you to my friends at Sorella Vita for the opportunity to style this dress on the blog this week. What a fun project! I am definitely reaching for this navy number for my next formal event, and love the idea of working it into the office wardrobe when worn with more casual pieces.
The folks at Better KC were kind enough to invite me back to have a chat about the color of the year (marsala!) on their morning program. Ah yes, live television, still terrifying.
If I hadn’t seen this dress on Tuesday, I would not realize it was the same! It looks totally different here and definitely more casual. You did a great job, ashley!
What a beautiful dress the color is so exuberant! Not to mention that “bien” necklace is a great add-on. Loving it! 🙂 xo~ Lena http://www.felinecreatures.com
You did prove that old adage correct! I love how you styled this formal dress to more every day. I need to do some hunting through my closet now to see if any of those old bridesmaids dresses can be worn again. Although I’m thinking the slinky floor length number in a weird light moss green won’t cut it:) Hope you’re having a great day!!
This is so awesome, good for you for putting your bridesmade dress to good use! Looks great when it’s more casual, I think I may test out this theory with one of mine 🙂
Oh I love this! And giving me me ideas for what to do with a chambray shirt I have. I never wear it because really it is too big, but I might be able to wear it like this. Good job!
You know, I was really skeptical about what you’d do to dress this down, but I REALLY love this look too. The denim and messy pony tail are the perfect twists to add that touch of casual, while still looking great.
And wow- congrats on the TV segment. Terrifying or not, that’s REALLY cool!
Totally love how you styled this dress in a casual, it’s adorable and chic at the same time!! Great styling. Have a great weekend:)

Haha, I re-used one of mine that was a blue A-line and paired it with a red cardigan for work on game day. Rock Chalk! 😉
And yes, live television is its own beast. It takes normal, well spoken and eloquent humans and makes them paranoid idiots. I still avoid it if at all possible. If not, there’s always pre-drinking as an option, lol.
Gorgeous, Ashley! Plus the Television segment was amazing, you did a great job!
I love the look! Accessories are on point!
