Jump, Skip and a Romp.

Word association. The first thing that comes to mind when someone says:
  • Jumper… an action flick starring the now-engaged Hayden and Rachel.
  • Romper… toddlers wobbling around in various onesie-ensembles in a daycare playroom.

Jumpers/rompers by the fashion definition are making a bit of a comeback. Two summers ago, I snapped up a beachy cover-up version that popped up on VictoriasSecret.com. Threw it on over my suit and was ready to roll.

Cut to 2010, and the jumper is bigger, better and more versatile.

Rompers

A variety of colors, prints, fabrics and styles made the jumper cooler than ever. The Mara Hoffman (1) would be perfect for a night on the town, with its splashes of tan and coral. The Joie jumpsuit (4) makes a statement paired with a bunch of silver (or gold, or both) bangles. The tribal Victoria’s Secret (3) is begging to be your new Favorite Summer Outfit, worn with everything from cardigans and leggings while it’s still a bit chilly, to gladiator sandals and nothing else come July.

I love how dainty the jumper from Elizabeth and James is (2); even though it’s super short, it somehow still feels demure. The Roxy jumper (6) hits the lingerie note that’s in trend right now, and the Rachel Pally printed jumper is both ladylike and sexy with its longer sleeves and deep V. Can’t leave out the beachy favs from Victoria’s Secret (5) and Marc by Marc Jacobs (8), which would both be perfect compliments to your swimsuit and flip flops.

Ah, jumper-talk makes me long for warmer weather…

  1. Love, love, love the Victoria Secret (3) jumper. The colors and patterns are gorgeous! Now I just have to figure out how I can pull off this look… maybe that gym membership will help 🙂

    1. I adore #3, too! It’s currently hanging in my closet, waiting (begging, pleading) to be worn. Another reason for spring to hurry along!

  2. Dying for the Mara Hoffman! I would wear it just like the model- with nude heels. Maybe with flats for day. I love the light brown and coral color scheme!

    Excellent post!

  3. I wore rompers when I was little! So funny that they’re back now!

Wonder if non-models can pull them off? Like someone with more curves- America Ferrara? Do you think she could wear a romper? That’s who I’m built like, but without Ugly Betty’s braces!

  4. Was never a fan of it on the hanger but I recently tried one on just to see…and I love it! 🙂
    Good blog cover! 🙂

    1. They’re just so easy, especially during the summer- it’s like jumper, sandals, done, out the door. 🙂

  5. Had to come back and say that after reading this, I ran to VS.com and bought #5 in black. I’m so excited to see how it looks!

    Thanks for the recommendations!
