Extra LSR: Currently…

Taking a minute to check in + tell you what I’m up to.

A collage featuring Santorini, Ashley's dog Muffin, a blue ruffled blouse, a coffee table tray and a sunset from Le Stylo Rouge for Currently: March

Eating: hard-boiled eggs. By the dozen. I’m still all about that IF life (read about intermittent fasting + why I do it here and here), and loading up on protein is a great way to sustain satiety + fuel your body. Plus, an egg is a killer low-cal way to give your body a complete protein (which = all 9 of the essential amino acids in equal parts).  Neat. I sprinkle a little Himalayan pink sea salt on ’em and go to town.

Drinking: Kombucha. I drink one a day as much lunch. It doesn’t break my fast + has a ton of good-for-your-gut probiotics. Synergy is my current fave brand; I love the mango, guava, and strawberry flavors.

Watching: Santa Clarita Diet. Sheila and Joel are now-married high school sweethearts raising their sassy teenage daughter and working as real estate agents in Santa Clarita, California. They’re you’re average, normal family when Sheila goes through a (pretty gross + amazing) transformation that propels the family into a completely new way of life. (Spoiler alert: Sheila’s a zombie!) It’s hilarious and I am soooo envious of Drew’s hair.

Going:  To the salon this afternoon to work on that blonde. We’re going lighter + icier, folks!

Reading: 10% Happier. My boyfriend turned me onto this book; it’s a first-hand account of a news anchor’s foray into meditation– without all the linen wide-leg pant sets, floor pillows, and repeated deep breathing that I thought meditation was all about. Dan Harris is a brilliant narrator, and his sarcastic style is right up my alley. Plus he’s a control freak Type A (like yours truly) and manages to work meditation into his life in a way I plan on implementing.

Loving: Spring weather. February + the very beginning of March were super warm here in Kansas City. I couldn’t be happier about this. Of course, this weekend we’ve got a random cold snap (featuring snow!) in the mix, but we’ll warm up again soon. Spring will win out yet!

Working:  My ass off at my 9-5. My manager abandoned ship, leaving all his work to be divided amongst the remaining content strategists (an already small + overworked bunch, if you ask me). Hello, new partners, who I have absolutely zero time for, I can’t wait to completely disappoint you. The powers that be better hire a replacement quick, or be prepared to watch my psychological breakdown in real time.

Listening: To Feel Good by Gryffin & Illenium ft. Daya. It’s my jam right now.

Buying: Ridiculous pieces for Kansas City Fashion Week later this month. You guys know I like to bring it for KCFW. This year will feature a floral silk flutter sleeves, leather pants, fishnets (duh), and a sequined bodysuit– to name a few.

Planning: A trip to Greece in late May/early June. My boyfriend and I are doing a big sweep of the islands: Mykonos, Crete (he’s running a marathon there– seriously, this boy is crazy), Santorini, and then a quick stop in Athens. Greece has been a dream trip since I was a kid; to say I’m pumped is such an understatement. It’ll give me the perfect excuse to wear these sandals.

Wondering: Just how much I should budget for flowers + spring landscaping. I’m a crazy plant lady, and this is super evident come full-blown spring. My patio + porch is overflowing with potted plants and pretty flowers, and my gardens are in full bloom. (You’ve all seen my monster hosta plants in spring + summer outfit shoots, right? Good reference right here.)

Feeling: Exhausted after a long week at the office. I’m going to take advantage of the winter weather moving in and hunker down + recharge.

Happy weekend!

  1. I love reading this, Ashley! It’s nice to get a small glimpse in what’s going on in your life. And gosh, work sounds stressful…hopefully there will be a competent replacement soon. xx

    1. I’m so glad to hear it, lady! Thank you so much. And yes- work is a bit of a nightmare right now, but that’s okay. Onward! 🙂

  2. Just finished Santa Clarita Diet. Sooo funny! Loved all the actors in it. I’m a big fan of Kombucha. My brother makes his own and always makes a little extra for me 🙂

    1. It’s such a good show! And I seriously want to learn how to make my own kombucha- I spend so much money on it, I should def be making my own!

  3. I enjoyed reading what you’re up to! I’m curious about your diet and cant wait to see your blonder hair! I love Santa Clarita Diet, it’s hilarious and I can’t wait for the new episodes!!! Baci, Valeria – Coco et La vie en rose FASHION & BEAUTY

  4. That s bad, on your work place! Be careful that you dont overdosis yourself. Greece is fantastic! This was very nice to read! Have a great Sunday!

  5. I really enjoy posts like this and getting a little glimpse at the life that goes on behind a blog. I love the sound of the book that you have been reading and will look out for a copy to read myself. I hope work gets better for you soon too! x

  6. Ooh a trip to Greece, how awesome! It sounds much deserved too with all the work you’ve been putting in. I love hard boiled eggs but hate making them–I think maybe I’d eat them more if I had one of those things that makes them for you! And that book sounds intriguing–definitely appeals to my type A mind too.

    1. I haaaaate making eggs, too- thankfully, my boyfriend knows how to peel ’em so it doesn’t rip up the egg white, so he’s always on egg duty. 😉

  7. I love hard boiled eggs and Kombucha. I saw the first episode of Santa Clarita Diet and died laughing; I can’t wait to watch more episodes. I just got an offer to go to Mykonos in the offseason at a discount price, kind of like a travel blogging event and I can’t wait. I’ve been to Santorini and Athens. Greece is so full of history, tradition and amazing food, I can’t wait to return. You will have a fantastic time; the Greeks know how to live.

    1. Greece is SO full of history- this is so true- and this is one of the top reason I’m dying to go! Thanks so much for swinging by, lady- and pumped for you to go to Mykonos! I hear it’s incredible and can’t wait to check it out in May!

  8. I love this kind of post because I get to learn so much more about you. I’m planning a Mediterranean trip for later this year as well. Also, I’ve been doing better with my diet and that always includes upping my protein and lowering my carbs. Will pick up some kombucha today for those probiotics. I also watched Santa Clarita Diet and thought it was hilarious.

    1. I can’t get enough kombucha- seriously! And that’s so exciting you’re hitting the Mediterranean later this year, too! I think I’m going to want to move there after I visit- it looks amazing!

  9. First of all, I don’t know what kombacha (?) is. I have seen it everywhere. I have thought about googling it, but never got around to it. Second, SUPER jealous about the Greece trip. I could totally tag along (but, you know, not run the marathon thing)… Third, I can’t wait to start planning out front and back for spring. The yards look like shit (like the rest of the house minus the living room now), so I can’t wait to start on that!

    1. So basically, kombucha is fermented sweet tea packed with a ton of probiotics. Super good for you. You should try it! And you can totally stow away and come to Greece with us- we can drink on the beach while Dave runs a marathon! Haha! 🙂

    1. Ohhh, that’s such a bummer about the eggs! I hear you, girl- they are delicious!
And KCFW should be fun- finalizing looks now!

  10. Greece is going to be INCREDIBLE. I can’t wait to read all about it! I’m so sorry to hear about the added work stress. I went through a similar situation last year and it was no fun at all. Definitely the recipe for a burnout!

  11. I love reading these little updates – your writing style is really enjoyable. The whole meditation “without all the linen wide-leg pant sets” is so true! That’s always what comes to mind for me. I hope work starts to calm down for you soon, too! Something similar happened at my job and it’s just NUTS trying to do everything with less people. Oh, and if your BF is in to running (clearly if he’s doing marathons LOL) he should check out the book “Natural Born Heroes” as it talks a lot about Crete + running/fitness-y things.

  13. Wow! Sounds like you have quite a balanced life, girlfriend. I am so excited for you in terms of your future vacation plans. I look forward to seeing some of your outfits there. And I am also a little envious of your weather. I’m in Boston during winter storm Stella today. Brrrrrr!
