Getting dressed for work can get a bit monotonous, no? You feel like you wear the same thing, over and over. This is especially true in the winter, where if you don’t stick to a pretty strict fashion diet of tall boots + trousers + sweaters, you’re literally out in the cold.

I find adding color in unusual places, prints, and fun but office-friendly shoes keep my work wardrobe feeling fresh.

I wanted to wear a new printed H&M blazer, which I planned on wearing with a basic white v-neck t-shirt. I resisted the urge to grab a pair of black trousers as a base, and instead chose these burgundy slim fit versions. A black and white brogue made more of a statement than a black ballet flat.

The printed jacket, standout trouser, and interesting shoe make this work outfit seem a bit extra (without any actual effort).

A few tweaks to the basics can make all the difference, don’t you agree?

    1. They were have a super sale a few months back and I coincidentally needed some new office-friendly trousers, so I bought like 4 pairs in a range of colors. Great line- they don’t get big/baggy after wearing ’em all day. 🙂

  17. Ahh this outfit is too cute! I totally agree – adding color in a work outfit is a fun way to inject personal style in a sea of black and white. I find that color really affects my mood and work performance sometimes. Do you find that happening to you at all?

  18. This outfit is so cute. And yes I totally agree!! Sometimes dressing for work can be so hard . When I worked in a business professional office as an intern I felt like I wore the same thing over and over again. Now, though I can wear jeans so I have a lot more options! 🙂

  28. I agree – these pants make everything brighter and more unique that basic black. Of course, there’s always a place for black; it’s such a great classic color! And best of all, these pants can easily transition to after-work fun. Have a great weekend Ashley!

    I feel like I wear the same thing every day because I actually am. I hate wearing a dumb uniform!

  45. Agh it has been really cold in Latvia & I am wearing at least 3 layers of clothes, which is not pretty anymore, because at the end I do end up looking like a stuffed animal or something! Though, I do like your idea of adding the perfect amount of color on our outfits in winter! Those pants look pretty awesome! 🙂
