Fave early fall combo: boyfriend shorts and a slouchy sweater.

We’re still warming up the afternoons here in KC, which makes fully committing to a fall wardrobe a bit tricky. One of my go-outfits for this transitional time of year is a pair of denim boyfriend shorts, an oversized sweater, and a pair of ankle boots. I scored this sweater from Vici a few weeks ago; it works now with shorts and will be killer with leggings and skinny jeans + tall boots later.  (Shop similar sweater options here and here.) These boyfriend shorts are on sale– they’re so good I snapped up two pairs. You guys know I can never have too many jean shorts on hand.  Nude suede ankle boots round things out for a nice tonal look for early fall, making this look perfect for September pumpkin patches or weekend patio runs.

Monochromatic looks were very in last fall + winter, and I imagine the same will be true this coming season. I have so many beige/tan/cream sweaters, but I really couldn’t resist adding another to the collection because I reach for them all the time. This sweater is lightweight enough for spring and summer wearing, but will obviously work in the winter with a leather jacket and jeans. Workhorse pieces like this make a streamlined wardrobe go around.

    1. We’re supposed to be in the 80s until at least next week before we cool off- but not sure for how long. Summer is stickin’ ’round!

  46. It feels more like summer now that it’s fall than it actually did all summer so definitely having a hard time getting into a fall wardrobe. But a sweater and jean shorts has to be one of my favorite transitional outfits. Can’t go wrong with it!
