Plaid Blazer + Fur Vest.

Is it possible to pull off a plaid blazer and a fur vest? I would venture to say yes. Well, I do love a good fashion challenge.

(Please, how annoying am I essentially just rolling out of bed every day and putting this fur vest on? Exhibit A. I can’t help it, it’s too good.)

I started with a really basic layer: a black tee, broken-in boyfriend jeans, and a pair of black flats. Then I added the blazer and topped it with the vest. I couldn’t resist a little necklace-layering, so a pavé bar pendant and a longer triangle pendant did the trick. I love that this whole look is a little boho, a little lumberjack, and super cozy.

Looking to layer pieces in your closet? Some tips:

  • Stick with lightweight layers. The blazer is quite fitted and the fur vest I used above is a slimmer cut; if either were bulky/more structured, I’d risk looking top heavy or too wide.
  • A blazer doesn’t have to be the final layer; try adding a scarf, vest, or light jacket over it. You can also use a button-up shirt worn open (think chambray) as a jacket over a tank + tee combo in different colors, patterns, or prints.
  • You can mix prints, patterns, and textures (like I did above with plaid + fur), just start with basics. Notice my outfit is built on a base layer of a black t-shirt and jeans.
  • Start by building a layered look in the same color family (varying shades of blue, for example, or a neutral palette with black, white, and gray). As you get comfortable mix and matching pieces, you may find it’s easier for you to layer more complicated looks.

Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. And now back to the grind…
