Maxing Out.

I’m on Team Maxi Dress. I fully support a decision that ends in a maxi dress.

First and most important– they’re easy. The dress is the focus; the main event. You can throw it on and be out the door. No coordinating tops and bottoms required.

You don’t have to worry about what shoes to wear (they won’t be too visible, anyway) or how much you end up scarfing at dinner (a maxi is a forgiving garment). You can pile on the jewelry or go minimalist. You can throw on a cardigan/blazer/leather moto jacket/vest or go bare.

So many correct answers to the maxi dress multiple choice question.

As long as the dress isn’t completely shapeless (walk away from it if has floaty sleeves, no definitive waist AND yards of fabric).

Since we’re in the middle of high summer, a few tropical options:

Maxing Out 11. Gypsy 05 Paloma maxi ($219)
2. Spielgel maxi ($44)
3. Gypsy 05 Ashley maxi ($219)
4. Victoria’s Secret maxi ($89)

Some options to carry you into fall (layer with snuggly cardigans, scarves and leather jackets when cooler weather settles in):

Maxing Out 2

1. Winter Kate Kimono maxi ($269)
2. Gap maxi ($50)
3. Splendid maxi ($125)
4. Victoria’s Secret maxi ($78)

What about you? Are you a maxi dress fan?

  1. I love LC’s dress. Just screams California summer to me. I’m also a fan of #3 for Fall. Simple, clean. I’ve never worn a maxi dress. Not really sure what style to go with for a curvy girl like me. Print, solid? Does it matter?

  2. Carrie- I would try a solid maxi in a color first. Make sure the dress has some shape- like an empire waist (which you could accent with a belt) or a great neckline to show off your décolletage. 🙂

  3. I have 2 or 3 maxidresses that I wear all spring, summer and early fall- they’re so simple but a little glam, too.

    Great post!

  4. Maxis are great….as you said very forgiving. #4 is fresh and young…love it. I should probably have a few of these in my summer wardrobe, would be a good addition.
