I’ve been complaining about the heat lately (like a grumpy old woman, I know). In the Midwest, you don’t always enjoy the weather so much as you survive it.
In effort to keep cool, I pare down my makeup routine when the temperatures skyrocket. Not sure about you, but spackling on three pounds of makeup only to walk outside and promptly sweat it off is not exactly my idea of a good time. Or a successful makeup event. My goal is a simple (and quick!) routine.
1. Bobbi Brown Tortoise Shell eye palette in Sand ($60)
2. Fresh Sugar Rose tinted lip balm ($22.50)
3. MAC 150 powder brush ($42)
4. MAC blush in Pure Peach ($20)
5. Almay eyeliner in Black Brown ($6)
6. Maybelline Lash Stiletto waterproof mascara in black ($7.50)
7. bareMinerals mineral foundation ($25)
I start with a clean face (plus SPF!) and dust on some bareMinerals foundation (7). It’s lightweight (so key for 95° days) and hypoallergenic, so look, Mom– no breakouts! I use the huge MAC powder brush (3) to apply a bright peach blush (4) on the apples of my cheeks. The big brush diffuses the color and peach gives a great natural flush.
Next up, I grab a neutral eye palette (1), swipe on a base color (lighter) and a contouring color (darker). Nothing fancy, and I don’t spend 10 minutes shading and blending. (I’m typically going to the office, not some Major High-Def Photography Event.) I just work a little of the contour color in the crease of my eyelid, and move on. A highlighter color (lightest, typically with some shimmer) goes on the brow bone and in the inner corner of the eyes; a great way to fake 8 hours of sleep. Dark brown eyeliner (5) and a great lengthening (and waterproof!) mascara (6), and I’m out the door.
I find that I can create this look in 5 to 7 minutes, start to finish. That buys an extra push on the snooze button, which is well worth it to me. Plus, I’m not walking around all day feeling stuck under a hot makeup mask. Win/win.
What about you? Do you edit your makeup routine during the summer?
