Free People Sweater with Shorts.

A cool front calls for lightweight sweaters over shorts.

When summer starts winding down and evenings dip into the 60s, it’s time to grab those lightweight sweaters and use them to build transitional outfits. This Free People sweater is my go-to right now because it’s cozy without being stifling, thanks to a soft knit and a split back. (Pssst: it comes in several super cute colors and is under $75.) I grabbed my trusty One Teaspoon Bandits and a pair of ankle boots to round out this look. Fall on top, summer on bottom.

What I love? This outfit goes a variety of casual places: a weekend brunch/lunch date, an evening patio session with the girls, or a laid back date night. I’ll be taking this Free People sweater with me to Vegas this weekend; it’ll provide a cozy layer for chilly plane rides and cool desert nights.

Shop the look:

You can wear this Free People sweater as an off-the-shoulder number (as I’ve done here; just size up when purchasing) or as a cowl neck– it totally works either way. Come fall + winter, I’ll be layering this with leather jackets and leggings. But right now while summer still hanging on, it vibes nicely with shorts. Have a great weekend!

  1. Ashley, this sweater is everything! I love the split back detail and the way it flows in the back. And it is so adorable with cut off denim shorts and booties. I need to copy this outfit for sure!
