Fall 2011: Skinny Latte.

Slim-cut, skinny trousers have been around for ages. They check those long-established fashion boxes: timeless and classic. However, many a 2011 runway trotted out pair after pair, so this look is getting a bit more attention than usual.

I’m a huge proponent of the skinny trouser; they’re a pillar in my work wardrobe. My favorite cut is a mid-rise ankle-length trouser. It’s easy + chic, all-day-every-day.

I have been shouting about red for weeks now. It’s a trend, you get it, I’ve nagged about it enough. (Who’s purchased something fire engine-esque for their fall wardrobe?) Skinny red denim is a great way to kill two Fall 2011 birds with one stone.

Examples? But of course:

Skinny Latte

1. ASOS Tailored Slim Cropped pant ($55)
2. Kate Spade New York Tribecca pant ($295)
3. Blue Essence Eliot Skinny Denim jeans ($88)
4. MICHAEL Michael Kors Straight Leg Ankle pants ($85)
5. Miss Sixty Skin Deep Trousers ($150)

A black slim-cut trouser is like the reincarnation of Audrey Hepburn’s fashion sense, which translates to: Go. Buy. Now. It’s a wardrobe workhorse; you will wear it all the time, all year round, in the office and out, until the pants are threadbare. You can go minimal with these pants from MICHAEL Michael Kors (4) or add a little snap with bold zippers (2). Because they’re black, you literally put on anything up top and it works. A white slouchy tee, a sequined blazer, a striped turtle neck, a tank and denim jacket, etc. Anything.

A warm tan color is so fall-appropriate, and you can get these trousers from ASOS on the cheap (1). I picture this both as it’s styled in the picture (with warm neutral colors), or with bolder choices, like a burgundy blouse and brogues.

If you’re looking to get on Team Red, put these denim options on your radar: a simple cherry-red 5 pocket (3) and a low-rise with a hint of orange to the red (5). Neutral colors like white and black are easy pairings with bright red, but don’t forget about the rest of the rainbow. Purple + red looks stellar, don’t shy away from a printed top.

What do you think? Are skinny trousers on your to-buy list?
