4th of July Fun.

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Right smack dab in the middle of summer, the 4th means poolside BBQs, sunshine, fireworks, and friends. And I love the opportunity to get a little kitschy with a nod to the Stars and Stripes.

A few options for the 4th… The key is to take one or two of these elements and incorporate them into your wardrobe. The best part? All of these choices will carry you through Labor Day, no problem. You think I’d dress you in that Old Navy Flag Tee and send you off? You know I’d never do that to you.

Red and Blue.1. Mod Cloth fedora ($18)
2. Dorothy Perkins stone cluster ring ($15)
3. TopShop Red Stripe Front Knot tee ($28)
4. JCrew scarf ($60)
5. Old Navy Mix ‘n Match Bikini halter top ($16)
6. Old Navy Mix ‘n Match Bikini bottoms ($16)
7. Forever21 belt ($7)
8. Abercrombie & Fitch Larissa denim shorts ($35)
9. Sam Edelman Gigi flat ($60)
10. Essie polish in Who’s She Red ($8)
11. Theory Crunch Maxi skirt ($225)

If you’re doing the casual BBQ thing, consider denim cutoffs (8) and a striped tee (3). Denim shorts are a true staple in my summer wardrobe; I wear them all the time. They’re (almost) always appropriate– dress them up with wedges and an embellished tank, or dress them down with a tee and flip flops.

Speaking of dressing things up, consider the white maxi skirt (11) if your 4th of July event is a touch more upscale then hot dogs on the grill. White is one of the colors of the season, and will be perfect whether it’s paired with your bright blue bikini (5, 6) or the red TopShop number featured above.

Add some accessories to personalize your look: a belt (7) wrapped around the maxi skirt or pulled through the loops of your denim shorts is lemon-squeezy-easy, as is a pair of two-toned flat sandals (9). Prevent a sunburned nose with a chic neutral fedora (1), and paint your nails fire engine red (10). Slip on a multi-stone cocktail ring in perfect 4th of July-friendly hues (2), or wrap a blue and white scarf (4) around your neck for firework-gazing after the sun goes down.

Keep it super simple (and lightweight! You don’t want sweat stains to become part of your outfit!) and have a happy 4th of July!

  1. Lol- Old Navy flag tee! 😀

You can catch me sporting a maxi skirt on the 4th- such a good idea. Thanks!

  2. I love 4th of July celebrations but I am out of the country during this fun holiday, so I’ll have to leave it up to all my fellow bloggers to soak up the fun for me! 🙂 But I can still wear a 4th of July inspired outfit!
